KALDI AND HIS MAD GOATS

Do you know where coffee comes from? … The truth is that there isn’t much information on the subject, and this has led people to come up with numerous legends about its origins.

The most popular legend, which has endured through history, is that of a 6th-century Arab shepherd from a mountainous region of Africa, named Kaldi. This shepherd noticed that his goats began to walk faster, leap about and play energetically when they ate some bright red berries from an unknown bush.

One day, the shepherd decided to try them himself and noticed that his tiredness vanished and he felt full of energy, so he ran to share his discovery with the monks in his village. They agreed to try them, but did not like them and threw them into the fire. It was then that the aroma the berries gave off as they roasted caught their attention, and they decided to make a drink with that scent and flavour. Legend has it that this is how the drink known as coffee was born.
